Tea Party & OWS, same message, different focus?

When it comes to the Tea Party, confusion still rules the day. However, as many pundits and commentators write about the issues and statements coming from the so called leaders, some clarity has begun to emerge. Occupy Wall Street (OWS), on the other hand, is much more recent and appears to be coming from a more leftist direction than the conservative Tea Partiers. While the Tea Party has focused primarily on big government as the problem for our nation’s ills, OWS’s focus has been on Wall Street, or big business. At first glance, this might look like the traditional Republican vs. Democrat rivalry that has always existed; however, some very subtle nuances exist behind the scenes which reveal a common ground between both of these popular movements. Simplicity: One Day At A Time, The Key to Fulfillment

There is much confusion about what it means to live “one day at a time”. Obviously, this cannot include a failure to plan for the future or to “eat, drink and be merry” with no thought of tomorrow. To do so would be utter foolishness and would feed the very addiction from which one is trying to recover. Neither can it be simply a victimized stance of “just getting by”, since this has nothing to do with deriving Joy from Life or experiencing Victory. Rather, it carries the meaning of “carpe diem” or siezing the day. It has more of a Zen application in that it means to appreciate what each day holds and to complete one’s journey of a thousand miles “one step at a time.” (Read on …)
