The site’s location is in beautiful Southern West Virginia, an area which has been exploited since the discovery of massive coal seams in the early 1800’s. Today, major coal companies continue to remove mountain tops, buy politicians, control legislation and remove valuable resources from the land without compensating the local communities they deplete. More of an affront is the fact that some of these entities include foreign countries such as Russia and China. While we agree that there is nothing wrong with free trade and the mining of valuable resources, local communities and residents should receive the lion’s share of the benefits and set the laws on how these resources can be obtained.
